The Plinia clausa is an extremely rare fruit native to South America and on the verge of extinction in its natural habitat (listed on the IUCN red list of threatened species). It is a relative of the slightly better known Jaboticaba.
There is little available information regarding this tree and its fruit, but it does come with a reputation as a fruit of excellent quality, similar in size to a large hen’s egg. In ideal conditions these trees can fruit at around 5 years of age.

Watering
- The tree prefers the soil to become dry between waterings.
- Spring (early): liquid seaweed, poultry manure, worm wee (10:1).
- Summer: liquid seaweed, compost around drip line.
- Autumn: liquid seaweed, sulphate of potash, worm wee.
- Susceptible to ants - place tape around the truck and a product such as Tanglefoot (required year-round). This is essential to overall plant health.
- Likes moderately acidic to slightly acidic soil (pH 5.6.-6.5).
