Mamey Sapote
Pouteria sapota
Sapotaceae Family

A large and highly ornamental evergreen tree that can reach 15-45m high. Related to the Abiu, Sapodilla, Canistel, and Star Apple.

The fruit is ripe when the flesh is vibrant salmon in colour when a fleck of the skin is removed. The flesh should give slightly, as with an overripe avocado. The fruit's texture is creamy and soft, with a pleasant peach-apricot flavour.  The fruit can be eaten fresh, used a green, or a fruit, salad, made into smoothies, ice cream and fruit bars, or made into excellent marmalade, jellies, and conserves. It can also be fried like bacon.

Native to Mexico and Central America.
