Mount White Lime
Citrus garrawayae
Rutaceae family
The Mount White Lime is an Australian native from the Cape York region of Queensland. It has similar fruit to the Finger Lime, but the plant has broader leaves and isn't spiny. In its natural habitat it is an understorey plant in tropical rainforests. While it can grow up to 15 m tall, it is generally smaller under cultivation.
The Mount White Lime flowers in winter and bears fruit in spring and summer. When opened, the small finger-shaped fruit contain tiny balls with a zesty citrus flavour. Use in salad dressings, drinks, sprinkle on top of savoury or sweet dishes and anywhere you would usually use lime. Or dehydrate in slices and dip in dark chocolate for a decadent treat!
