NSW Davidson Plum
Davidsonia jerseyana
Pleasantly sour purple fruit with a burgundy-coloured red flesh that is high in antioxidants and vitamins; 100 times more Vitamin C than oranges.
Fruits prolifically between November to February. Pick the fruit just as it is beginning to turn purple. The refreshing tartness works well in both sweet and savoury products, such as jams, jellies, cordials, wines, ice-cream, yoghurt and meat sauces; also used as a food colourant.
Not very palatable as a fresh fruit due to the intense fruit acid and low sugar content.
Native to Australia.
There are three species of Davidson Plum. Two species grow in the rainforests of Bundjalung country - Smooth Davidson Plum (D. johnsonii) and Mullumbimby Plum (D. jerseyana). Both species are very rare in the wild and are listed as Endangered. The third species, D. puriens is found in QLD.

Tree maintenance
- Pruning - height is controlled by pruning off the tips. This also encourages multiple stems and fruiting.
- Rich organic compost and adequate moisture is essential for optimum growth.
