NSW Davidson Plum
Davidsonia jerseyana
Cunoniaceae family
The Davidson Plum is native to Australia and is rare in the wild. It produces sour purple fruit with a burgundy-coloured red flesh that is high in antioxidants and vitamins.
Fruit develops close to the stem and is ready between November and February. Fruit drops to the ground when ripe or can be picked from the tree when deep purple in colour. It is not very palatable as a fresh fruit due to the intense fruit acid and low sugar content. However the tartness works well in both sweet and savoury products, such as jams, jellies, cordials, wines, ice-cream, yoghurt, chutneys and meat sauces.
There are three species of Davidson Plum. Two species grow in the rainforests of Bundjalung country - Smooth Davidson Plum (D. johnsonii) and Mullumbimby Plum (D. jerseyana). The third species, D. puriens is found in QLD.

Tree Maintenance
- Pruning - height is controlled by pruning off the tips. This also encourages multiple stems and fruiting.
- Apply chicken manure and crusher dust (for minerals) twice per year.
- Protect from fruit fly.
